Together we went over what typical first births look like. They can take hours, and sometimes even days to really pick up. Since they were going to be driving quite far from home to their desired birthing place (Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver) we didn’t want to leave it too late, but we also thought there would be plenty of time to work through the beginning of labour at home. Little Sawyer had other plans and wasn’t going to waste any time making his entrance into the world. When I got the call early in the morning, I suggested a couple of things for coping before I would join them but when I talked to mama & dad about 45 minutes later explaining that I was on my way, but it seemed like it might be time to leave already- so I suggested meeting at the hospital instead. Rush hour was fast approaching- and trying to find positions to be comfortable in active labour can be a challenge even when there is plenty of space to move around, so imagine trying to do it while confined to car in the middle of rush hour. I left shortly after and within a few minutes of being admitted, mama’s water broke with gusto… which was Sawyer’s way of letting us all know he was ready to be born. Just a few short hours later, this little man was safe and sound in his parents arms. It was the perfect start to my day!
Thank you so much Tennille & Michael for choosing me to be with you on this journey and thank you for allowing me to share your story! xx
