The Birth of Owen | Vancouver Birth Doula & Photographer -

I photographed Meghan & Geoff’s intimate Mayne Island Wedding just over a year ago. When I got the call from them that they were expecting their first baby and wanted me to be with them on this journey as well, I was beyond excited. Meghan & Geoff planned a home water birth with the incredible support of their midwives at Pomegranate Community Midwives and Meghan’s good friend (a fantastic doula in the making), but their little man had other plans…After a lot of hard work at home, they made the difficult, but necessary decision to transfer to BC Women’s hospital. Little Owen was born surrounded by some amazing people while he was welcomed earth side, and I was fortunate to be by their side for it all. Not all births go according to plan, however the time and care they took in learning about normal physiological birth and their excellent choice in care providers, made a huge impact on their experience. No matter how it ended this little guy’s birth was full of love and unwavering support from start to finish. It was an honour to walk with them on this journey and be present as they welcomed their sweet man into the world.
